Breast Augmentation

PROCEDURE:
Breast augmentation (BA)

WHO IS A CANDIDATE FOR THIS PROCEDURE:

  • Volume loss and drooping of the breasts
  • For volume and shape enhancement
  • Management of tuberous breast deformity
  • Achieving symmetry of the breasts

DESCRIPTION:

Breast augmentation is one of the most popular procedures performed in plastic surgery.  During ageing the breasts begin to lose volume and the supporting ligaments begin to stretch with the effect of gravity.  This is especially true for patients who are post-partum (after child birth and breast-feeding).

Breast augmentation is a procedure where a medical grade silicone implant is surgically placed under the breast, either under the muscle (sub-muscular) or above the muscle (sub-glandular); there are specific indications for each procedure.

An incision is made either under the breast or around the areola.  Implants used in the practice are of the highest quality and approved by regulatory boards around the world.

Dr Liakos is extensively involved in breast reconstruction and has extensive knowledge of the breast anatomy required to achieve consistent and excellent long-term results.

SOME FAQs:

  • You should not have breast surgery within at least 6 months of breastfeeding
  • You may still breast feed after breast augmentation
  • Breast augmentation does not increase your risk of breast cancer
  • If you fall pregnant after BA, your breast shape may change
  • You may need revision surgery to the breasts after many years of BA

DURATION:

1 hour

ASSOCIATED PROCEDURES:

In some instances a breast lift (mastopexy) may be required at the time of breast augmentation.  This means that the nipple may need to be lifted and excess skin below the nipple needs to be removed.

An implant alone may not be enough to achieve the necessary result and therefore an augmentation/mastopexy is required.

This procedure results in extra scarring of the breast, however the final outcome outweighs the scars.

A breast augmentation may also be part of a mommy-makeover… breasts, tummy and thighs!

POST-OPERATIVE RECOVERY:

  • Recovery after this procedure is usually 2 weeks.
  • No driving for 2 weeks and no workouts for 4-6 weeks depending on the recovery.
  • Drains are removed the following morning after the procedure.
